SSC CGL Typing Test
Tax Assistant & DEO posts only — 35 WPM English or 8000/15000 KPH. Qualifying test, backspace not allowed.
What is SSC CGL?
SSC CGL (Combined Graduate Level) is a central government recruitment exam for Group B and C posts. Not all CGL posts require a typing test — only Tax Assistant (CBDT/CBIC) and Data Entry Operator (DEO) posts have a Skill Test component.
The Skill Test is held after CBT-1 and CBT-2. It is qualifying in nature — marks from the typing test are not added to the final merit list. You must pass to get the post, but your written exam rank determines your cadre allocation.

Common Mistakes
The most common failure is preparing for the wrong post type. Confirm Tax Assistant vs DEO first — they use different speed metrics and different preparation strategies.
What to avoid
✕Preparing only for Tax Assistant if you got a DEO post — DEO uses KDPH not WPM
✕Using backspace during practice — it builds a habit you can't use in the real exam
✕Ignoring passage content — SSC uses formal government text, not conversational writing
✕Not checking which post you got — typing rules differ by post
✕Practising at exactly 35 WPM — aim for 38–40 so exam nerves don't drop you below
What actually works
✓Confirm your post first — Tax Assistant (WPM) vs DEO (KDPH) need different preparation
✓Practice without backspace from week one
✓Read the passage briefly before starting to avoid stumbling at unfamiliar words
✓Track error % every session — stay below 4% to have margin on exam day
✓30–45 minutes daily for 3–4 weeks is enough to reach 35 WPM from scratch
Frequently Asked Questions
CGL mein sabhi posts ka typing test hota hai?+
Nahi — sirf Tax Assistant (CBDT/CBIC) aur DEO posts. Agar aapko Inspector Income Tax ya Assistant Section Officer mila hai toh typing test nahi hai. Apna post allocation letter check karo.
Tax Assistant ke liye English ya Hindi — kaunsa?+
Usually English 35 WPM. Hindi ka option kuch cycles mein hota hai. Notification carefully padhein. Zyaadatar candidates English chose karte hain.
DEO ka KDPH kya hota hai — WPM se kaise different hai?+
KDPH = key depressions per hour — actual keyboard presses count karta hai. WPM = words per minute. DEO ke liye 8000 KDPH roughly 22-25 WPM ke barabar hai. Numeric entry zyaada hoti hai toh KDPH metric use hoti hai.
SSC CGL typing test kab hota hai?+
CBT-1 aur CBT-2 qualify karne ke baad Skill Test hota hai — document verification ke saath ya usse pehle. Exact schedule notification mein hota hai.
Backspace nahi allowed toh galti ho jaye toh?+
Continue karte raho — deleted ya overwritten characters mistake count hote hain. 5% ke andar rehna zaroori hai. Ek-do mistakes se pass/fail nahi hota — ek sustained accuracy habit important hai.
Skill test qualifying nature ka matlab kya hai?+
Typing test marks final merit mein add nahi hote. Bas pass karna zaroori hai. Fail karo toh post nahi milegi, chahe written exam toppers mein kyun na ho.
35 WPM kitne samay mein achieve hoti hai?+
Jo already 20-25 WPM pe hain unhe 2-3 hafte lagte hain. Bilkul naye students ko 4-6 hafte. Key habit: backspace nahi daba ke roz 45 minute practice. Accuracy pehle — speed automatically aati hai.
