About the Remington Marathi Layout

Typewriter DNA

The Remington Marathi layout is built on the classic Remington typewriter key arrangement — the standard that shaped typing for over a century — modified to carry the Devanagari script used for Marathi. If you’ve ever used a Marathi typewriter, the muscle memory carries straight over.

CDAC ISM V6 standard

This is the Remington layout standardised through CDAC’s GIST / ISM software for use across government offices — which is exactly why the MPSC skill test uses it. Learn it once and it works in real government टंकलेखन work too, not just the exam.

The ‘K’ key rule

One Remington-specific quirk worth drilling early: in Marathi Remington typing you complete certain letters using the ‘K’ key rather than Shift + A. A small detail, but it trips candidates up on exam day — the widget’s key hints flag it as you type.

Remington vs Mangal Inscript— Remington is typewriter-style (what MPSC Group C tests), while Mangal Inscript is the Unicode/BIS phonetic layout used for GCC-TBC and most Unicode posts. Different exams, different layouts — if your notification says “Unicode” or “Mangal,” practise on the Mangal Inscript Marathi typing test instead.

MPSC Group C Marathi Typing Skill Test — Rules & Scoring

The MPSC (Maharashtra Public Service Commission) conducts the typing skill test after the main exam for Group C posts — Tax Assistant, Bailiff, Clerk and Clerk Typist. Here is exactly how the Marathi test runs, so nothing surprises you:

Passage300 words in Marathi, copied into a text box
Time10 minutes
Keystroke target1,500 keystrokes in Marathi (English typing, where separately required, targets 2,000 keystrokes in 10 minutes)
NatureQualifying only — no marks added to merit, but you must pass to stay in the race
Error limit7% of the total given words. Cross 7% and you are disqualified, no matter how fast you typed

What counts as a mistake? Omission, addition, transposition, substitution or repetition of a letter/word. (Wrong capitalisation is counted for English typing only.) During the test you may use Backspace to correct a word, but navigation/arrow keys are not allowed, and Caps Lock and Scroll Lock must stay off. This is why accuracy beats speed here: on a 300-word passage, a 7% cap is roughly 21 wrong words before your attempt ends — clean, steady typing wins over reckless pace.

How to Practise Remington Marathi Without ISM Software

Plenty of aspirants get stuck installing CDAC ISM just to practise. You don’t need it here. This Remington Marathi typing test runs entirely in the browser — if ISM is running in the background, simply turn it off before you start and type directly on the virtual Remington layout. Practice works on mobile too, though a physical keyboard mirrors the real exam far better.

Your Score: Net WPM

Your result uses Net WPM — raw speed minus mistakes — the same government-aligned method every Maharashtra exam uses. The full formula with a worked MPSC example is on the Marathi typing test hub. Quick version: (keystrokes ÷ 5) ÷ minutes, then subtract wrong-words-per-minute — and keep errors under that 7% cap.

Remington Marathi Typing Test — Common Questions

Yes — the MPSC Group C Marathi typing skill test uses the Remington Marathi layout. Always confirm against your post's official notification, as some notifications specify Mangal/Inscript.

Practise the real MPSC Group C interface — offline.

The exam room has no internet. The TypingWale Windows app runs the exact MPSC Group C typing interface — official-length 300-word passages, the 1,500-keystroke target, backspace rules and 7%-error scoring — completely offline, so you rehearse the real thing, not a lookalike.
