3. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal data only for specific, lawful purposes:
- To provide the service — create and manage your account, deliver typing practice content, track your progress, and personalise your experience.
- To process payments — handle subscription billing, refunds, and transaction records as required by Indian law.
- To communicate with you — send transaction emails, important account updates, support responses, and (only with your explicit consent) marketing or product update emails.
- To improve TypingWale — analyse usage patterns, fix bugs, develop new features, and improve content quality.
- To comply with the law — meet our legal, regulatory, tax, and accounting obligations under Indian law.
- To prevent abuse — detect fraud, account misuse, security threats, and policy violations.
We do not sell your personal information to advertisers, brokers, or any third party.
4. Legal Basis for Processing (DPDP Act 2023)
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we process your personal data on the following legal bases:
- Consent — for marketing communications, optional analytics cookies, and any optional features you opt into.
- Performance of contract — to deliver the services you have purchased, such as your subscription plan.
- Legal obligation — to comply with tax laws, accounting standards, court orders, and lawful government requests.
- Legitimate uses under the DPDP Act — such as preventing fraud, ensuring information security, and responding to emergencies where applicable.
5. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We share your information only with the following categories of trusted partners, and only when necessary to operate the platform.
5.1 Payment Processors
Our authorised payment partner Razorpay processes all subscription payments. They receive only the data necessary to complete a transaction (your name, email, and payment instrument). We do not store your full card number, UPI PIN, OTP, or banking credentials on our servers.
5.2 Hosting and Infrastructure
Our website is hosted on Vercel. User account data and typing progress are stored in Supabase (hosted on Amazon Web Services). Our domain name is registered through Hostinger.
5.3 Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how users interact with TypingWale in aggregate. IP anonymisation is enabled. We do not use analytics to identify individual users.
5.4 Email and Communication
We use a transactional email provider to send account confirmations, password resets, and billing receipts.
5.5 Legal and Regulatory Disclosures
We may disclose your data when required by Indian law, court order, or lawful government request; when we need to investigate suspected fraud, abuse, or security violations; or when we need to enforce our Terms of Service. Where legally permitted, we will notify you of such requests before disclosure. We will not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to advertisers or unrelated third parties.
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal data only for as long as it serves a legitimate purpose:
- Active account data — retained while your account is active and you are using the service.
- Subscription and billing records — retained for 8 years after the last transaction, as required by Indian tax and accounting laws.
- Typing performance data — retained for 3 years after your account is closed; after this period, data is anonymised for product improvement or deleted.
- Marketing consent records — retained until you withdraw consent, plus 1 year for audit purposes.
- Support correspondence — retained for 2 years after the last message.
After the applicable retention period ends, we either delete the data permanently or fully anonymise it so it can no longer be linked to you.
7. Your Rights as a Data Principal
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the following rights with respect to your personal data.
7.1 Right to Access
You may request a copy of all the personal data we hold about you, along with information about how it is being processed.
7.2 Right to Correction
You may request correction of any personal data that is inaccurate, outdated, or incomplete.
7.3 Right to Erasure
You may request deletion of your personal data, subject to our legal obligations to retain certain records (for example, billing data must be retained for tax compliance).
7.4 Right to Withdraw Consent
You may withdraw consent for marketing emails, optional cookies, or any consent-based processing at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing done before withdrawal.
7.5 Right to Grievance Redressal
You have the right to file a grievance with our Grievance Officer (see Section 12) and, if you are not satisfied with our response, with the Data Protection Board of India established under the DPDP Act.
7.6 Right to Nominate
You may nominate another individual to exercise your rights on your behalf in case of your death or incapacity, in the manner prescribed under the DPDP Act.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@typingwale.com with the subject line “Data Rights Request”. We will verify your identity and respond within 30 days as required under the DPDP Act.
8. Children’s Privacy
TypingWale is intended primarily for users 18 years of age and older.
Under the DPDP Act, 2023, individuals under 18 are considered “children” and require the verifiable consent of a parent or legal guardian before their personal data may be processed. If you are under 18, you may use TypingWale only with such consent.
Where we collect data of a child:
- We obtain verifiable parental or guardian consent before processing.
- We do not engage in tracking, behavioural monitoring, or targeted advertising directed at children.
- The parent or legal guardian may access, correct, or request deletion of the child’s data at any time.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal data to us without your consent, please contact us at privacy@typingwale.com immediately.
9. Data Security
We use reasonable security practices and procedures to protect your personal data, including:
- HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data in transit between your device and our servers.
- Encrypted storage for sensitive data at rest.
- Strict access controls limiting employee access to personal data on a need-to-know basis.
- Regular security reviews, software updates, and patch management.
- Secure payment processing through certified payment gateways — we do not handle card data directly.
However, no method of online transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure. In the event of a personal data breach that is likely to result in significant harm, we will notify affected users and the Data Protection Board of India as required by the DPDP Act, 2023.
10. International Data Transfers
Our website is served via Vercel’s global edge network. User data stored in Supabase (hosted on Amazon Web Services) may reside on servers outside India. We ensure that any such providers offer protection consistent with the DPDP Act, and we only transfer data to countries not restricted by the Central Government under Section 16 of the DPDP Act.
