RRB NTPC UG CBTST — Junior Clerk & Accounts Clerk

The RRB NTPC UG CBTST is a mandatory qualifying stage for Junior Clerk cum Typist and Accounts Clerk cum Typist (Level 2) posts. It is conducted after CBT-2 and is Pass/Fail only — typing marks are never added to the merit list.

The exam platform is TCS iON — the same system used for SSC CHSL. However, RRB NTPC UG completely disables Backspace during the evaluation session, whereas SSC CHSL also disables it but at a higher speed bar (35 WPM English vs 30 WPM for RRB NTPC UG).

Hindi medium candidates must choose between KrutiDev 010 (Remington layout) and Mangal + Remington GAIL. Mangal Inscript is not available for RRB exams. Language and layout selection is made at the application stage and cannot be changed later.

PwBD Provision

Candidates with 40%+ permanent disability (Blindness/Low Vision, Cerebral Palsy, Loco Motor Disability) may apply for extended time or a full typing exemption with a valid medical certificate submitted during the application process. Speed requirements are otherwise identical across all categories — there is no category-based speed relaxation.

04

RRB NTPC UG vs SSC CHSL vs RRB GDCE

Three exams that share a similar typing test structure but differ in speed requirements, eligible candidates, and font options. SSC CHSL requires higher speed; GDCE is restricted to existing RRC employees.

Key takeaway: SSC CHSL requires a higher speed (35/30 WPM) and is the only one of the three offering Mangal Inscript as a font option. A candidate who practices at SSC CHSL's pace will comfortably clear the RRB NTPC UG threshold of 30 WPM.

TypingWale Advantage

TypingWale's UG practice track locks editing tools from session one and includes both official Hindi fonts — KrutiDev 010 and Mangal Remington GAIL — so font familiarity isn't something you're building for the first time at the exam centre.

No-Backspace Practice Mode

TypingWale replicates the exact RRB rule — backspace is locked during practice. Build the correct muscle memory from Day 1, not habits you will need to unlearn before the exam.

Exact TCS iON Interface

Same timer position, passage display, font rendering, and layout as the real RRB NTPC portal. No interface surprises on exam day.

KrutiDev + GAIL Both Available

Practice on the exact layout you selected at application stage — KrutiDev 010 (Remington) or Mangal (Remington GAIL). Switch between them in a single click.

Railway Government-Language Passages

Administrative and railway content matching the actual RRB NTPC language register. Generic news or story text does not prepare you for the exam vocabulary.

Full / Half Mistake Analytics

See your exact full and half mistake breakdown, 5% buffer consumption, and net speed calculation — so you understand your result before exam day.

Learn as You Type

Key hints and finger placement guide visible while you practise. Build speed and layout knowledge simultaneously — the most efficient path to exam readiness.

30-Day Preparation Plan — UG Posts

Typing is a motor skill — it cannot be crammed. Four weeks of consistent daily practice is significantly more effective than intensive last-minute sessions.
Week 1
Keyboard familiarity + font selection. Home-row drills, Backspace locked from Day 1.
15–20 WPM
Week 2
Accuracy foundation — full government-style paragraphs, no Backspace, target 95%+ accuracy.
20–25 WPM
Week 3
Speed building — longer 400-word passages, error rate target below 8%.
28–32 WPM
Week 4
Full exam simulation — 10-minute mock tests every session; apply the official formula to confirm net speed stays above 33 WPM.

Common Mistakes

Avoid

  • Practising with backspace enabled — RRB locks it completely. Forming the wrong habit now will cause panic on exam day when corrections are not possible.
  • Stopping after every error — in RRB you cannot go back. Train yourself to maintain a steady pace and continue typing regardless of mistakes.
  • Ignoring the 300-word minimum — typing slowly and finishing below this count means disqualification before the speed formula is even applied.
  • Practising on general text — railway administrative language differs from everyday content. Exam passages require familiarity with government vocabulary.
  • Delaying layout selection — the layout is locked at the application stage. Choose one immediately and begin dedicated practice.

Do

  • Practise with backspace disabled from Day 1. TypingWale provides this exact mode — use it for every session.
  • Prioritise accuracy above 90% first. The RRB error formula penalises each mistake heavily; slow and accurate outperforms fast and error-prone.
  • Target 350–380 words in 10 minutes during practice so you have a comfortable buffer on exam day.
  • Complete full 10-minute sessions daily. Stamina matters when you cannot pause, correct, or take breaks during evaluation.
  • Study the error formula — understand your 5% buffer and track your full vs half mistake breakdown in analytics.

Can I change my typing language selection at the examination centre?

No. The language selected on the RRB portal before the exam is final — no changes are permitted on exam day.

What is the warm-up duration for UG CBTST?

1 minute of warm-up (not evaluated), then a 30-second break, then the 10-minute evaluation that determines qualifying status.

How does the UG net speed calculation work?
