What is SSC CHSL LDC / JSA? — परीक्षा क्या है?

SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination) recruits Group-C clerical staff for central government. LDC (Lower Division Clerk) aur JSA (Junior Secretariat Assistant) — dono ke liye typing test identical hai. Fail hone par selection nahi, chahe written mein kitna bhi score ho.

LDC is posted to subordinate offices across central government departments. JSA positions are in Central Secretariat ministries. Dono posts mein essentially same clerical work hota hai — file notings, official correspondence, government portal data entry, meeting minutes, RTI responses.

Typing test mandatory hai. Regardless of Tier-I aur Tier-II written modules score — typing test fail hone par disqualification. SSC uses Tier-II, Session-II, Module-II typing test for both LDC and JSA with absolutely no variation.

Departments hiring through CHSL: Ministry of Finance, Home Affairs, Defence, Income Tax (CBDT), Customs and GST (CBIC), High Courts, Central Secretariat, KVS, NVS, PSUs, aur 200+ subordinate offices. Wherever posted, typing is the most-used technical skill from day one.

How to Select Language? — Hindi ya English?

Language medium — Hindi ya English — application form mein select karna hota hai. Ye choice final aur irrevocable hai. Exam ke baad change nahi hota kisi bhi condition mein.

SSC CHSL online application form mein typing test ka medium — Hindi ya English — select karna hota hai. Ye choice final aur irrevocable hai. SSC submission ke baad koi bhi change nahi karta. Hindi select karne wale candidates exam day pe Hindi type karenge; English select karne wale English.

Hindi candidates ke liye specific keyboard layout (Inscript, Remington Gail, KrutiDev, ya Remington CBI) exam day pe TCS iON test screen ke side-panel se choose hogi. Mid-test layout switch bhi officially permitted hai.

Practical Guidance

Jo language mein genuinely faster aur accurate ho woh choose karo — not based on which speed number looks easier on paper. Hindi requires 30 WPM (lower threshold) lekin higher layout complexity hai. English requires 35 WPM lekin standard QWERTY use hoti hai. Honest self-assessment se decide karo.

Recommended: Fresh beginners ke liye Mangal + Inscript choose karo — modern Unicode standard, aur SSC ke baad bhi multiple exams mein kaam aata hai. Jo already KrutiDev trained hain unke liye Mangal + Remington Gail best transition hai. Whichever layout you choose, practice exclusively on that one layout.

Backspace Rules — Official Position

Backspace: ALLOWED — SSC official document explicitly confirm karta hai ki candidates remaining time mein typescript check aur corrections kar sakte hain.
Official SSC Position

SSC official document 'Instructions to the Candidates for Typewriting Test' explicitly states that candidates may use any remaining time to check the typescript and make corrections. Ye backspace aur arrow keys ka in-test editing ke liye use officially confirm karta hai.

Iska matlab ye nahi ki accuracy deprioritize kar sako. Har correction time consume karta hai aur total words typed reduce hote hain. Optimal approach hai accurate first-pass typing — backspace sirf unavoidable errors ke liye fallback ke roop mein use karo.

Key / ActionStatus in SSC CHSL
Backspace KeyALLOWED — in-test correction permitted
Arrow KeysALLOWED — cursor navigation within typed text
Delete KeyAllowed (consistent with backspace permission)
Mouse Click (typing area)Allowed for cursor repositioning
Copy / Paste (Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V)DISABLED — blocked by TCS iON
Spell CheckDISABLED

Duration & Time Management — समय प्रबंधन

English aur Hindi dono typing tests 10 minutes ke hain. PwBD candidates ko 15 minutes milte hain (+5 compensatory). Ek practice window evaluated test se pehle milta hai.
  • English typing test: 10 minutes
  • Hindi typing test: 10 minutes
  • PwBD candidates (compensatory time applicable): 15 minutes total
  • Pre-test practice window: Provided before the evaluated test for keyboard and layout verification
  • Total estimated time at terminal (login + practice window + test): approximately 25–35 minutes
6-2-2 Time Management Strategy

First 6 minutes: Type at a consistent, accurate pace. Do not rush. Minutes 7–8: Maintain speed without compromising accuracy. Final 2 minutes: Complete remaining text, then use any spare seconds to review and correct visible errors.

Disqualification Rules — fail hone ka kya hoga?

Net WPM below 35 (English) ya 30 (Hindi) = disqualification from selection — regardless of written exam scores. Same CHSL cycle mein retry nahi hota.
Disqualification Conditions
  • Net WPM below 35 for English candidates = disqualified from selection
  • Net WPM below 30 for Hindi candidates = disqualified from selection
  • No retake within the same CHSL cycle — must reapply in next cycle

SSC does not publish a fixed error percentage cap for LDC/JSA. Evaluation is purely net WPM based. PwBD candidates who are permanently unable to type may apply for exemption by submitting a Civil Surgeon certificate in the prescribed format (SSC CHSL 2024 Notice, Para 13.9.7.7.7).

Unique Features of SSC CHSL Typing Test — kya alag hai?

SSC CHSL ka typing test India ke central government exams mein sabse zyada options deta hai. Kuch features hain jo sirf is exam mein milte hain.
  • 4 Hindi keyboard layout options — sabse zyada
India ke kisi bhi central government typing test mein sabse zyada — Mangal Inscript, Remington Gail, KrutiDev Remington, aur Remington CBI. Candidate apni trained layout use kar sakta hai.
  • Mid-test layout switching permitted
TCS iON screen ke side-panel se test ke dauran bhi Hindi keyboard layout change kar sakte hain — real-time switch allowed. Ye feature aur exams mein nahi milta.
  • Language medium locked at application
Hindi ya English ka choice application form mein final hai. Exam ke baad kisi bhi circumstance mein change nahi hota.
  • Backspace allowed — official confirmation
SSC ka official document 'Instructions to the Candidates for Typewriting Test' explicitly in-test corrections allow karta hai. RRB NTPC jaisi exams mein ye permission nahi milti.
  • Same test for PA/SA candidates
Postal Assistant aur Sorting Assistant candidates bhi same CHSL cycle mein same typing module dete hain — identical rules aur speed requirement. Dedicated PA/SA page available hai.

Error Calculation Formula — गलती कैसे गिनी जाती है?

SSC CHSL mein Full Mistake + Half Mistake system hai. Ek spelling mistake = 1 full word deduct. Accuracy pehle speed baad mein ka principle yahan mathematically proven hota hai.
Full Mistake — 1 Error Each
Omission — word/figure from passage skipped entirely
Substitution — word replaced with a different word
Addition — extra word typed not in passage
Spelling error — any misspelling, extra/missing/transposed letter
Incomplete word — partially typed at time-up
Word repetition — same word typed twice consecutively
Half Mistake — 0.5 Error Each
½Spacing error — missing or extra space between words
½Capitalization error (English) — wrong case for proper nouns
½Punctuation error — missing, extra, or substituted punctuation
½Word transposition — adjacent words in reversed order
½Paragraph indent using spaces instead of Tab key
Net WPM Formula + Worked Example
Net Mistakes = Full Mistakes + (Half Mistakes ÷ 2)
Net WPM = (Gross Words − Net Mistakes) ÷ 10
StepCalculationResult
Test Duration10 minutes10 min
Gross Words Typed380 words typed during 10 min380 words
Full Mistakes4 full mistakes (4 × 1.0)4.0
Half Mistakes6 half mistakes (6 × 0.5)3.0
Total Net Mistakes4.0 + 3.07.0
Net Words380 − 7373 words
Net WPM373 ÷ 10 minutes37.3 WPM
Required Minimum35 WPM (English)✓ PASS
Strategy: 380 words with 15 full mistakes = 36.5 WPM (barely pass). Same 380 words with only 5 mistakes = 37.5 WPM (comfortable pass). Aim 40+ WPM gross speed so errors still leave net WPM safely above 35.

Why Typing Matters for LDC / JSA Officers — job mein kaam aata hai?

LDC aur JSA officers apne working day ka 60–70% keyboard pe spend karte hain. Typing ek optional skill nahi hai — ye primary job function hai from day one.

Ek typical central government clerk roz ka kaam: file notings (busy ministry mein 30–50 pages daily), official letters aur circulars draft karna, government portals mein data entry, meeting minutes prepare karna, aur RTI responses handle karna.

Weak typing skills ke real professional consequences hain. Supervisors file clearance mein delays note karte hain. Jo offices daily output track karti hain, wahan ek slow typist backlogs create karta hai jo Annual Performance Appraisal Reports mein appear hota hai aur departmental promotions affect karta hai.

Daily Typing Work — LDC/JSA
  • File notings aur office orders — 30–50 pages daily
  • Official letters aur circulars draft karna
  • Government portal data entry
  • Meeting minutes prepare karna
  • RTI responses aur inter-department correspondence
Departments Hiring LDC/JSA
  • Ministry of Finance, Home Affairs, Defence
  • Income Tax (CBDT), Customs & GST (CBIC)
  • High Courts, Central Secretariat services
  • KVS, NVS, PSUs, defence establishments
  • 200+ subordinate offices across India
After joining: Weak typing = daily deadline misses + file backlog + supervisor complaints + slow career growth. Strong typing = smooth workflow + timely file clearance + positive APR remarks.

Common Mistakes — kya avoid karein

CHSL aspirants ki sabse badi galti — speed ko accuracy se pehle rakhna. Formula clearly prove karta hai: ek full mistake = 1 word less. Accuracy pehle build karo — speed automatically follow karti hai.
Common Mistakes — Avoid Karo
Speed over accuracy — early focus on raw speed builds error habits that are hard to undo. Each full mistake costs one complete word from net WPM.
Practicing on general text — news articles and stories do not prepare you for CHSL administrative language.
Wrong layout practice — splitting training between two layouts destroys muscle memory. Choose one, commit fully.
Last-minute preparation — typing is motor skill. Minimum 30 days of consistent daily practice needed.
Ignoring the formula — not understanding full vs half mistakes means you cannot make smart accuracy decisions.
Smart Approach — Ye Karo
Accuracy pehle — 90%+ accuracy at all stages of preparation. Speed follows accuracy, not the other way.
Commit to one Hindi layout from Day 1. Do not switch layouts during preparation.
Practice on TCS iON-style interface with government passages from Week 3 onward.
Set a 5 WPM buffer target — aim for 40 WPM in practice so exam pressure still leaves you above 35.
Use the 6-2-2 minute strategy on exam day — 6 min steady, 2 min push, 2 min correct errors.
30-Day Preparation Plan
Week 1Keyboard familiarization, home row mastery, commit to one Hindi layout, practice without time pressure15–20 WPM
Week 2Accuracy focus — 90%+ accuracy at all times, identify and eliminate repeat error types22–28 WPM
Week 3Speed building with govt-language passages, hold 90%+ accuracy throughout30–37 WPM
Week 4Full mock tests on TCS iON interface, timed practice, 6-2-2 strategy refinement38–42 WPM
TypingWale Pro Tip: Week 4 mein apna target exam minimum se 5 WPM upar rakho. Agar practice mein consistently 40 WPM aa raha hai, to exam pressure speed thodi reduce karegi — lekin 35 WPM comfortably cross ho jayega.

Frequently Asked Questions — अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न

SSC CHSL LDC/JSA typing test ke baare mein sabse common doubts — layout choice, backspace rules, error formula, language selection, PwBD time. Sab official SSC documents se verified.
SSC CHSL LDC aur JSA ke liye kitni typing speed chahiye?+
35 words per minute (10,500 KDPH) English ke liye aur 30 words per minute (9,000 KDPH) Hindi ke liye. Ye minimum net speed hai — mistake deductions ke baad. Gross speed isse zyada honi chahiye buffer maintain karne ke liye.
SSC CHSL typing test mein backspace allowed hai kya?+
Haan — backspace ALLOWED hai. SSC official document 'Instructions to the Candidates for Typewriting Test' explicitly kehta hai ki candidates remaining time mein corrections kar sakte hain. Arrow keys bhi allowed hain.
SSC CHSL ke liye kaunsa Hindi layout choose karein — Inscript, Remington, ya KrutiDev?+
SSC CHSL mein 4 options hain: Mangal + Inscript, Mangal + Remington Gail, KrutiDev + Remington, aur Mangal + Remington CBI. Fresh beginners ke liye Mangal + Inscript — modern Unicode standard, multiple central govt exams mein kaam aata hai. Jo already KrutiDev trained hain unke liye Mangal + Remington Gail best transition hai. Ek layout choose karo aur ussi pe practice karo — dono seekhne ki koshish mat karo.
Typing test fail hone par kya hoga?+
Typing test fail hone par selection se disqualification hoti hai — chahe written exam mein kitna bhi score kiya ho. Same CHSL cycle mein retry nahi hota. Next CHSL cycle mein dobara apply karna padega.
Kya typing test ke marks merit list mein add hote hain?+
Nahi. LDC/JSA typing test strictly qualifying hai — pass ya fail. Merit list sirf Tier-II written modules (Section-I aur Section-II) ke scores pe banti hai. Typing test marks kahin count nahi hote.
Language medium — Hindi ya English — apply karne ke baad change ho sakta hai?+
Bilkul nahi. Application form mein jo language select ki hai woh final hai. SSC kisi bhi case mein change nahi karta. Carefully sochke decide karo — jis language mein genuinely faster aur accurate ho.
SSC CHSL typing speed calculate kaise hoti hai?+
Net WPM = (Gross Words Typed minus Net Mistakes) divided by 10 minutes. Net Mistakes = Full Mistakes + (Half Mistakes divided by 2). Ek full mistake = 1 word deduct. Ek half mistake = 0.5 word deduct. Only correct (net) words count toward passing.
Pre-test practice window kitni der ka hota hai?+
Official notification mein exact duration specify nahi hai lekin ek practice window milta hai before evaluated test — keyboard aur layout verify karne ke liye. Hindi candidates is time mein apna preferred layout select karte hain.
Kya passage re-type kar sakte hain agar pehle finish ho jaayein?+
Nahi. SSC ke instructions kehte hain ki remaining time corrections ke liye use karo, re-typing ke liye nahi. Paragraph dobara type karna allowed nahi hai — word count reset ho jaata hai.
Kya TypingWale pe SSC CHSL practice available hai?+
Haan. TypingWale pe SSC CHSL-specific passages, PYQ sets, aur exact TCS iON interface replica hai typingwale.com pe. Backspace enabled hai, aur saare 4 Hindi layout options available hain ek hi platform pe.
PwBD candidates ko kitna extra time milta hai?+
PwBD candidates jinhein compensatory time applicable hai unhe 5 additional minutes milte hain — total 15 minutes (10 + 5). Speed requirement same rehti hai — sirf extra time milta hai. (SSC CHSL 2024 Notice, Para 7.8 aur 7.9)
LDC aur JSA ke typing test mein koi difference hai kya?+
Bilkul nahi. LDC aur JSA exact same Tier-II, Session-II, Module-II typing test dete hain — identical speed requirements, font options, interface rules, aur error calculation. Dono posts ke beech kisi bhi typing test parameter mein koi variation nahi hai.
SSC CHSL clear karo — pehli baar mein
Exact TCS iON interface. Govt passages. PYQ sets. All 4 layouts. Free to start.
