What is PSSSB?

PSSSB (Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board) conducts recruitment for Punjab state government jobs including Clerk and DEO posts. The typing test is a separate qualifying round held after the written exam.

The board recruits for Clerk, DEO, and other posts across multiple Punjab government departments. Clerk posts require Punjabi or Hindi typing at 30 WPM. DEO posts require English at 8000 key depressions per hour. The test is qualifying — pass/fail, no marks to merit list.

Font note
Punjab uses the Raavi font for Punjabi typing — not Krutidev or Mangal. The keyboard layout follows Remington-style conventions. If your post requires Punjabi, practice specifically on Raavi layout.

Typing Layouts

Three different layouts serve PSSSB candidates — Raavi for Punjabi, Mangal Remington GAIL for Hindi, and QWERTY for DEO English. They are not interchangeable. Pick the one for your post and stick with it.
PUNJABI CLERK
Raavi (Punjabi)

Official Punjabi Unicode font with Remington-style layout. Used in PSSSB and all Punjab state government typing tests.

HINDI CLERK

DEO POSTS

Raavi vs Mangal: If you already know Remington GAIL Hindi, Punjabi Raavi will feel familiar — same key positions, different script. The muscle memory transfers quickly.

Common Mistakes

The most common issue is language confusion — practising Hindi when your post needs Punjabi, or using the wrong font. Identify your exact requirement first.
What to avoid
Practising only Hindi if your post requires Punjabi — Raavi is a completely different layout
Confusing Punjabi Raavi layout with Hindi Remington — same structure but different characters
Using backspace extensively — it breaks your flow in timed tests
Setting practice sessions longer than the actual test duration — 10 min focused practice is better than 1 hour casual
What actually works
Identify your exact post first — different language requirements for Clerk vs DEO
For Punjabi, use Raavi font specifically — don't substitute with another font
Practice in 10-minute focused sessions to build pacing for the actual test
Aim for 32–33 WPM in practice so 30 WPM feels comfortable on exam day
Daily 30–40 minute practice for 4–5 weeks typically reaches 30 WPM for beginners

Frequently Asked Questions

PSSSB Clerk mein Punjabi ya Hindi — kaunsa choose karein?+
Agar Punjabi mein comfortable ho toh Punjabi choose karo — it's the state language and many candidates are strong in it. Hindi also valid. DEO ke liye English required hoti hai.
Raavi font kya hota hai aur kahan practice karein?+
Raavi Unicode font hai jo Punjabi ke liye use hoti hai — similar to Mangal for Hindi. Keyboard layout Remington-style follow karta hai. TypingWale mein Remington GAIL practice available hai jo structure samajhne mein help karti hai.
30 WPM Punjabi mein achieve karna — kitna time lagta hai?+
Hindi typewriter background walo ko Punjabi mein shift karne mein 2-3 hafte lagte hain kyunki layout similar hai. Bilkul naye students ko 4-6 hafte. Daily 30-40 minute practice zaroori hai.
PSSSB DEO ke liye KDPH kya hona chahiye?+
8000 KDPH minimum — roughly 22 WPM English. Regular English typists ke liye ye relatively easy target hai. Main challenge accuracy hai — error % 5% se neeche rakhna.
PSSSB typing test qualifying hai ya marks add hote hain?+
Qualifying nature ka hai — pass/fail. Marks final merit mein nahi jate. Pass karna zaroori hai selection ke liye.
Punjab mein kaunse aur exams mein Raavi font use hoti hai?+
Punjab Police, Punjab Revenue, PUNBUS, Punjab Roadways, other state PSBs. Mostly Punjabi state government jobs. Central government jobs usually Mangal (Hindi) ya English use karte hain.
Kya English aur Punjabi dono practice ek saath karein?+
Agar DEO post hai toh English KDPH focus karo. Clerk ke liye Punjabi/Hindi. Dono ek saath practice karna possible hai — but 10-minute sessions separate rakhna better hai focus ke liye.
