Kruti Dev 055 Typing Course — Beginner to Advanced
First 25 lessons are free. Pro required for full access.
Beginner
Home-row consonants on the Remington-style arrangement, 2–3 keys per lesson with the finger guide. Key positions follow typewriter tradition, not phonetics — this stage is deliberate map-building.
Intermediate
Matras and half letters the Kruti Dev way — half forms often live on their own keys or shift positions rather than being composed — plus Marathi-specific characters like ळ, and a small set of Alt-code characters.
Advanced
Full paragraphs in exam register, then timed drills against the court-test benchmark of roughly 25–30 WPM net with 90%+ accuracy, with live WPM and word-level error feedback.
What Is Kruti Dev 055?
Kruti Dev is a legacy, non-Unicode Devanagari font family from the typewriter-to-computer era, mapped onto the Remington-style key arrangement. Some legacy Maharashtra exam centres and court typing tests refer to their Kruti Dev setup as “055.” The key arrangement taught in this course is the same Kruti Dev mapping documented on our Hindi Kruti Dev course — half letters and Alt codes included.
Being non-Unicode, Kruti Dev text renders correctly only where the font is installed — which is exactly why the exams that still use it test on the font directly rather than a generic Unicode field. Online “010 vs 055” charts frequently disagree with each other, so if your notification names an exact variant, treat your exam centre's own guidance as the final word over any chart — including this one.
Where is the halant (्)?
Shift + ` (the backtick/tilde key, top-left of the number row) — without Shift that same key gives the ऋ-matra (ृ). Most half letters have their own dedicated key, but wherever a standalone halant is needed, this is it.
Confirm your exam's font variant before Lesson 1
Kruti Dev variants share a family but can differ in specific mappings — and Unicode exams (GCC-TBC, MPSC's Mangal-based tests) don't use Kruti Dev at all. Two minutes with your exam notification (जाहिरात) saves weeks of practicing the wrong layout.
Kruti Dev vs Hindi Kruti Dev (learning path)
Same Remington-style family taught on both course pages — a typist coming from (or headed to) the Hindi side keeps almost all finger memory. Modern Unicode exam instead? Take the Marathi Mangal Inscript typing lessons →

Six Habits That Make Kruti Dev 055 Stick
Map first, speed later. Kruti Dev is pure memorisation — accept a slow first two weeks at 95%+ accuracy; the speed compounds after.
Drill Alt-code characters on a schedule. The few characters needing Alt combinations vanish from memory without weekly touch-ups — five minutes, दर आठवड्याला.
Learn half letters as their own keys. In Kruti Dev many half forms are typed directly, not composed — treating them as separate keys, not exceptions, halves the confusion.
Eyes on the screen, chart on standby. Look up a forgotten key in the chart below, then immediately re-type the word three times without looking.
Type real court-register words early. न्यायालय, अर्ज, आदेश build the exact patterns legacy-centre passages use.
One timed test weekly. Measure on the 10-minute Kruti Dev 055 test format weekly; drill whatever the word-level error report flags.
